Jay took the theme "Green" and decided to make some posters with the kids of their favorite green places, people or things. While working with this idea, Jay had the kids practice a little color mixing to create the color green. This paint was then applied to large pieces of recycled paper as the kids added their images to their themed posters. The end result was pretty fun!
Jay talked a lot with he peers ahead of time about how to get the kids away from the tables and painting up against the wall, without creating chaos. I was really excited about this idea as we have a few kids who often need appropriate times to move around the room, and a few other kids who could really benefit from working their arms as they create these larger pieces of work.
For this kind of large format work Jay had to do a lot of planning.
I was really impressed when I got this room layout as part of his lesson plan.
Jay had great command over the room as the kids work, often excitedly yelling "stay with me" if kids got off task. You can tell by the smiles on these kids faces and by the work produced that this was a fun and festive time for all.
