This project was done with children ages 3-5. A student's grandfather generously donated some old frames from his store, and we got to play with them. Because these young students were focusing on the theme "Help" I thought it would be nice to create a group project. I knew that several students in this class struggled with their fine motor skills, so I wanted to create a lesson where everyone could participate in a way that would support where they were developmentally. Using paint brushes can often be difficult for those who can not easily control their arm and hand movements, so I thought using old cups as a stamp might be fun. I chose to have the students also work standing up, giving them a little practice with their muscles and balance. For those who needed support standing up, I brought the picture frame closer to their bodies and stood behind them gently locking my knees around their hips to give them support. I did not move their arms for them, but supported their arms and allowed them to move as much as they could on their own.
The piece itself is huge, and about 12 students worked on it.
